5 Foolproof Ways to Stop Unsolicited Phone Calls

Unsolicited phone calls are becoming increasingly unpopular as they are becoming more of a common occurrence due to individuals giving out their personal information more freely in this connected and technological world. But there are many ways that you can stop them from becoming a problem to you by banishing them from your personal space and time. So where do you begin and how do you stop those calls?

Register With the Telephone Preference Service (TPS)

One of the more obvious ways is to register yourself with the TPS – or Telephone Preference Service to use its full name. If you are registered, UK based companies are no longer allowed to contact you over the phone, even if they are calling you from overseas. However, it is important to note that the TPS cannot protect you from calls from companies that you have ‘opted in’ to receive contact from, or from overseas companies.

Take Yourself Off Call Lists

Under the data protection act it is prohibited for any company to call you for marketing purposes if you have previously asked them not too, even if you are one of their customers. If you need to provide a company with your contact details at any time you can ask them not to call you for marketing purposes or pass on your number to a third party. It is also worth reading any check boxes on applications and such to make sure that you are not signing up to receiving calls unnecessarily.

Use Caller ID

Caller ID is incredibly valuable and almost all of you will have it on your home and mobile phone. It is an excellent way of answering the important calls and leaving the rest for the answer machine. If someone wants to talk to you, 9 times out of 10 they will leave you a voicemail and you can call them back. This is a simple and effective way of filtering your calls.

Don’t Be Pressured into Speaking to a Sales Agent

If you do happen to end up on the phone with a salesman you may find them to be rather pushy and overbearing. Do not let this fluster you. Stay calm and don’t agree to anything over the phone. Never give out any personal details and always remember that they will most likely be getting commission on any sale they make and many will go to great lengths to get that sale. If you feel that they are not respecting your wishes or that they are overstepping the mark then simply tell them that you no longer wish to speak to them and hang up.

Purchase a Call Blocking Device

If you would like something else to do the hard work for you then you can purchase a call blocking device from sites such as www.callblocker.co.uk that will also be happy to advise you on how to keep cold callers at bay. There are a variety of sites on the internet that can help you if you are worried that you have been the victim of fraud, so please take a look and stay safe.
